Dave Dravecky is a former major league baseball pitcher, who was diagnosed with a cancerous desmoid tumor in his pitching arm in 1987. He underwent treatment for the tumor, which included removing half of the deltoid muscle and freezing the humerus bone in an effort to eliminate all of the cancerous cells. In July of 1989, he returned to pitching. In a game against the Expos, in the sixth inning, he pitched a ball and his humerus bone snapped, ending his career. In 1991 after being told in 1989 that the cancer had returned, Dave's left arm and shoulder were amputated. Since then he has become a motivational speaker and author of several books.
