Research Notes on Cystic Fibrosis Support Groups and Foundations
Cystic fibrosis is a hereditary disorder brought about by an alteration in the gene called the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR). This ailment causes severe lung damage due to thickened mucus secretions that clog the tubes, ducts, and passageways of the lungs.
Support groups help people feel better emotionally by creating a setting for communication among its members. These interactions can help a person with cystic fibrosis get to know others who have the same disease and are able to share experiences and information on coping with the illness.
