Research Notes on Cyclosporine
Cyclosporine prevents your immune system from rejecting organ transplants. The immune system handles the new organ like it was an infection. This medication reduces the immune system's ability to fight.1 Rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis are also conditions that may require the use of cyclosporine.2
Fast Facts:
- Cyclosporine is sold under several brand names, including Gengraf, Sandimmune, Neoral, and Restasis.
- Patients should take the exact amount of cyclosporine recommended by their doctor, taking too much may increase side effects, not taking enough may not work.3
- Patients with uncontrolled high blood pressure, kidney disease, or cancer should not take this medication.4
- While taking cyclosporine stay away from sunlight and do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice.5
