Research Notes on Cushing's Syndrome Symptoms


Symptoms of Cushing's syndrome can vary. Typically, those affected show weight gain around the mid section, at the back of the neck and develop a fat deposit just above the collar bone. The weight gain that develops at the back of the neck is known as a buffalo hump. Weight gain also develops in the face and is often referred to as a moon face, due to the rounded appearance. Other symptoms include bruising easily, excessive hair growth on the body, fatigue, muscle weakness, decreased sex drive, flushing of the cheeks, hypertension, depression and slow healing. Purple stretch marks, called striae, often develop on the abdomen, thighs, breasts and arms.1
