Research Notes on Crohn's Disease and Severe Diarrhea
Crohn's disease and severe diarrhea often go together. The reason for this is due to the cells of the intestinal wall absorbing lots of water and salt. Your colon can't absorb that water into your body so you end up with diarrhea. This is known as "explosive diarrhea."1
Fast Facts:
- Taking an anti-diarrhea medication such as Imodium can be helpful.2
- Following a diet for Crohn's disease may also be a helpful way to control symptoms.3
- Crohn's disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease that causes severe diarrhea and abdominal pain.4
