Research Notes on Crohn's Disease and Flaxseed Oil
Crohn's disease is a condition in which there is chronic inflammation in one or more areas of the digestive tract. Because there is no cure, physicians offer patients medications to help manage the symptoms and flare-ups. Some physicians recommend supplements to be used in conjunction with medications. Flaxseed oil is commonly recommended to patients to be used daily, regardless of flare-ups.1
Fast Facts:
- Flaxseed oil contains some of the omega-3 fatty acids that are also in fish oil which has been proven beneficial.2
- Animal studies have shown that the types of acids available in flaxseed are more effective than those found in the fish oil, but human studies have not been conducted.2
- Is more effective if used in conjunction with medication than if used alone.2
