Research Notes on Crohn's Colitis
Crohn's colitis, also known as Crohn's (granulomatous) colitis, is one of the five types of Crohn's disease. This type of Crohn's disease affects the colon and causes diarrhea, abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, and perianal diseases.1 Crohn's disease is an autoimmune disease and the cause is unknown, symptoms can be treated with diet, medication, and surgery.2

- Skin lesions and joint pain are more common with Crohn's colitis.1
- Approximately 20 percent of Crohn's patients are diagnosed with Crohn's colitis.3
- Crohn's colitis shares the same symptoms as ulcerative colitis making diagnosis more difficult.4
- It is classified as a subtype of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).1
