Research Notes on Costochondritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis

Costochondritis is the painful inflammation of the junctions of the upper ribs and the breastbone. It is thought to be associated with certain types of arthritis. Causes of costochondritis are unknown but it is usually attributed to trauma such as blows to the chest, repeated coughing, vomiting or overexertion. Other possible causes are genetic predisposition and viral infections.
