Research Notes on Coptis


An Asian relative of the American herb goldenseal, coptis is also called golden thread or chinese golden thread.1 The active constituent in coptis is mainly berberine which is also found in barberry and oregon grape root.2 It is used to treat various conditions including atherosclerosis, cancer, eye disorders and tuberculosis.2
