Congenital lobar emphysema, also known as infantile lobar emphysema, is a rare respiratory disorder wherein the air inhaled cannot escape the lungs, causing hyperinflation of the lobes of the lung. It is genetic in origin and is often detected in newborns. Treatment is aimed at providing support and strengthening the child's respiratory function. Surgery is also done for patients with more serious cases of congenital lobar emphysema.
