Research Notes on Condurango
Condurango (also known as Marsdenia cundurango, eagle-vine bark, condurangorinde and ecorce de condurango) is an herbal medication that is used to help stimulate the appetite and increase food digestion.1 The dried bark and trunk of the tree are used most often.2 At one time, it was thought to be useful in treating cancer although it is no longer used for this purpose.3
Fast Facts:
- Other reported uses include the stimulation of saliva, as a diuretic and to calm upset stomach that is caused by anxiety.3
- Side effects can include stiff neck and facial muscles, restlessness, seizures and liver dysfunction.3
- Side effects should be reported immediately and the medication should be discontinued.3
