Research Notes on Conditions Helped by Aromatherapy
Some of the conditions helped by aromatherapy may include insomnia, the common cold, and stress. Other things that may be helped by aromatherapy can include anxiety and depression. Studies on mice have shown behavior can also be changed with certain aromas.1
Fast Facts:
- Approximately 40 essential oils are used in aromatherapy. These include lavender, eucalyptus, chamomile, jasmine, peppermint, and lemon.2
- Aromatherapy was first used in the 1920s by French chemist Rene-Maurice Gattefosse who had an accident in his perfume lab and then devoted his life to the healing properties of essential oils.3
- Children under age five should not use aromatherapy as they can be sensitive to the oil.4
