Research Notes on Concerta Dosage
Dosing for Concerta varies for individuals depending on medical history, age, and other currently prescribed medications.1 Concerta is a medication prescribed to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It is an extended-release tablet that is available in 18 mg, 27 mg, 36 mg, and 54 mg. The recommended starting dose for children new to Concerta is 18 mg and between 18 mg to 36 mg for adults daily.2 This medication may be habit-forming and should be taken as prescribed by health care professional.3

- Concerta is a brand name for the drug methylphenidate.2
- Concerta is not recommended for children under the age of six or adults over the age of 65.4
- Children should be monitored closely while taking Concerta to ensure proper growth and weight gain are occurring.5
- The recommended dose for patients previously prescribed methylphenidate varies from 18 mg to 72 mg daily.1
- Dosage changes should be monitored by a physician and increased or decreased in small intervals (18 mg). Withdrawal may occur if Concerta is stopped abruptly.1
- Headaches, upset stomach, and weight loss are the most common Concerta side effects.6
