Research Notes on Concerta Abuse
There are different ways that people abuse Concerta, a drug used to treat ADHD. Although Concerta is a prescription drug, it can be abused orally, by snorting it, and by injection.1 Most abusers of Concerta use it as an "upper" to get high; students take Concerta without a prescription because they feel it helps them with their schoolwork.2 Improper use of Concerta can cause potentially deadly heart problems.3
Fast Facts:
- Concerta is the brand name for the drug methylphenidate.4
- Concerta should not be given to children under the age of six without consulting a doctor first.5
