The common cold, also known as an acute viral nasopharyngitis or acute coryza, is an extremely contagious viral disease.1 Colds are most often caused by various types of viruses.1 Most often, the rhinovirus is to blame for causing a cold, but coronavirus, adenoviruses and enteroviruses are also potential causes.1
