Research Notes on Colon Cancer Causes
The exact causes of colon cancer are yet unknown, but some risk factors for the disease have been identified. Oftentimes, colon cancers start as benign (non-cancerous) polyps, slowly developing into cancer. It has also been found that people who have family history of colon cancer and other malignancies; eat high-fat, low-fiber diet and red meat; smoke cigarettes; and are aged 50 and above are predisposed to developing this form of cancer. Having a regular colon cancer screening can lead to early detection, and to complete cure.
