Research Notes on Cold Sore Symptoms
Cold sores are small, painful blisters that appear around the mouth. Pain or tingling may be experienced for a day or two prior to seeing the blister. The painful blister breaks and oozes. Then, a yellow crust forms. This will slough off to reveal pinkish skin. Cold sores are most common on the lips. They may also form on nostrils, chin, fingers, and rarely on the gums or roof of the mouth.1
