Research Notes on Cluster Headache Symptoms
Cluster headaches are headaches that typically involve one side of the head.1 Unlike migraine headaches, the cluster headaches tend to affect men more often than women.1 Symptoms include runny nose, swelling under the eye on the side of the pain, excessive tears on the affected side, red eye, nasal congestion and a red face.1
Fast Facts:
- Headache begins suddenly, sometimes about two to three hours after falling asleep, is a sharp and steady pain or a burning type of pain.1
- Can involve the face, from the neck to the temple area.1
- Cluster headache pain typically lasts one-half to two hours and may return at nearly the same time every day for several weeks.1
