Research Notes on Clonidine Side Effects
Dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, and constipation are common side effects of clonidine (Catapres), an antihypertensive drug. These side effects may subside as your body adjusts to the medication. Irregular heartbeat and depression are rare side effects that should be immediately reported to a health care provider. If symptoms of an allergic reaction occur while taking clonidine, seek immediate medical attention.1

- Chest pains are a possible side effect of clonidine that should be reported to a health care provider.2
- Stop taking clonidine and seek emergency medical help if your heart rate drops below 60 beats per minute.3
