Research Notes on Clonazepam and Anxiety
Although primarily used in the treatment of seizure disorders such as epilepsy, clonazepam is also sometimes used to treat anxiety and anxiety disorders. Clonazepam has a calming effect, making it useful to those who are anxious or suffer from panic disorders. Unfortunately, the drug can sometimes result in depression making it a bit more difficult to use in those who suffer from bipolar disorder.1

- Clonazepam is the generic name of the brand name drug Klonopin.1
- Clonazepam is typically only prescribed for short-term usage in the treatment of anxiety.2
- Although some patients report greater benefits from clonazepam than Xanax, it can often be more difficult to discontinue treatment with clonazepam.3
