Research Notes on Clitoris
The clitoris is one part of the female sexual anatomy. It is a visible button-like part of the body that is located above the opening of the urethra and near the junction of the labia minora.1 With the exception of expelling urine, the clitoris is the female equivalent of the male penis.1
Fast Facts:
- Like the penis, the clitoris is engorged with blood when aroused.2
- On average, the clitoris is approximately 2 cm long.3
- In some cultures, the clitoris is surgically removed in order to decrease sexual pleasure for women, ensuring wives will remain faithful.4
