Research Notes on Citalopram and Wellbutrin
Citalopram (Celexa) and bupropion (Wellbutrin) are often prescribed together, if one drug or the other is not working on its own.1 When both are prescribed, it is important to be monitored closely by your health care provider. Coadministering these two drugs can increase the risk of seizures, particularly in patients with a history of seizures and the elderly.2
Fast Facts:
- Combining Wellbutrin and Celexa seems to help some people with depression.3
- When bupropion is given in combination with other medications, the dosage should be started at the lower end of the dose range and increased gradually if needed.2
- Do not combine these drugs unless approved by your health care provider.1
- People taking antidepressants often have questions or concerns about the medication. Read how psychiatrists respond to frequently asked questions.
