Citalopram and Pregnancy

Citalopram (Celexa) should be used with caution if you are pregnant. There has been only limited research regarding possible effects of taking it during pregnancy.1 A Canadian study reported that the use of the drug during the latter part of the pregnancy had an increased risk of "poor neonatal adaptation syndrome," which included symptoms of jitteriness, irritability, eating and sleeping difficulties, convulsions, vomiting, and low blood sugar. These side effects were normally temporary and not life threatening.2
