Research Notes on Chronic Neck Pain
Chronic neck pain is pain that occurs for more than six months.1 The pain can range from mild to severe. Some symptoms of neck pain are muscle spasms, muscle aches, tingling, burning pain, sharp pain, and dull pain. This could be from rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, muscle strain, or even simply poor posture.2

- Neck pain is general pain in the neck area including stiffness in the neck muscles.
- You should contact your doctor if the neck pain is accompanied with severe headache or vomiting.
- Traumatic accidents or falls can cause severe neck injuries like vertebral fractures, whiplash, blood vessel injury, and even paralysis.3
