Research Notes on Chronic Lung Disease


Chronic lung disease (CLD) is a term which describes long-term respiratory problems that typically develop early in life or may even be present at birth.1 CLD is sometimes a result of an injury to the lungs of premature babies who had been placed on mechanical ventilators to assist their breathing immediately after birth.1 Babies who suffer from CLD are more prone to develop other respiratory issues.1

  • Can show symptoms as soon as three days after birth.2
  • Treatment options include medication and extra oxygen supplementation.2
  • Most babies will outgrow this condition.2
  • Also called bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
