Research Notes on Chronic Lower Back Pain
Chronic low back pain is one of the most common causes of chronic pain. It is also one of the most common medical complaints that health care providers deal with.1 Lower back pain is considered to be chronic if it last for three months or longer.2

- Chronic lower back pain may be caused by conditions such as a degenerative disc disease, arthritis, infections, herniated disc, pinched nerve, or weight gain. Diabetics may have low back pain radiating down their legs which is related to neuropathy.3
- Over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or aspirin can help lessen the severity of your symptoms.4
- Research suggests that acupuncture is an effective treatment for low back pain.5
- Proper relief of back pain will depend on a correct diagnosis.6
