Research Notes on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Causes
The cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is not known for sure. Causes of chronic fatigue syndrome may be related to infection with effects on the immune system. Several viruses have been studied as possible causes of chronic fatigue syndrome, but no cause and effect has been discovered.1

- Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a disease that was first named in the 1980s.2
- The symptoms of CFS are fatigue and weakness that make it extremely difficult to perform routine and daily tasks.2
- One of the associated infections is the Epstein-Barr virus, which causes mononucleosis, also called “mono” or the “kissing disease may be associated with CFS.1
- Scientists are also studying various metabolic abnormalities and risk factors such as genetic predisposition, age, sex, prior illness, environment, and stress.2
