Supermodel Christy Turlington announced that she had emphysema when she was 31 years old.1 Turlington had smoked for years, but gave it up after her father died of lung cancer.2 Turlington's emphysema was diagnosed when she volunteered to participate in a scan to promote new technology for diagnosing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
