Research Notes on Cholesterol and Garlic

Though it may be beneficial in other health matters, garlic has not been shown to reduce very elevated cholesterol levels in human studies. Previous studies had shown that a chemical similar to one found in garlic was very effective at reducing cholesterol in animal studies, but researchers have shown that the two chemicals aren't close enough to produce the same effect in humans consuming garlic. Although it has been shown that garlic doesn't reduce very high cholesterol, researchers continue to study the effect of the drug on the development of heart disease.1
