Research Notes on Children and Self-Esteem

Babies do not have a sense of self, and they do not judge themselves as good or bad. As they grow up, they experience people making judgments about them. Parents and family members play an important role in developing their self-esteem. Encouraging and inspiring them through praises like, “Good job!” and “You can do it!” go a long way. With the love, support and motivation of parents and family, children build their self-esteem and become more confident of their abilities to achieve great things.
