Research Notes on Childhood ADHD Linked to Adult Criminal Behavior

Children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are more likely to commit crimes as adults, a Yale School of Public Health study found. Study findings revealed that children with ADHD were twice as likely as their peers to commit robbery in adulthood and were 50 percent more likely to sell drugs.1 Researchers suggest that children showing ADHD symptoms should be viewed as an at-risk group, and targeted intervention programs to reduce the probability that these children commit crimes later may be appropriate.2
