Chicken pox is caused by the Varicella Zoster Virus, which produces reddish skin lesions, or rash. It is accompanied with fever, weakness, and muscle pain. The skin lesions eventually become blisters. Most cases occur in children under 15 years old, and can easily spread from one child to another. Chicken pox among infants is very serious because there is a high risk of complications. Prompt diagnosis and treatment of chicken pox in infants will help prevent these complications from developing.
