Research Notes on Chicken Pox Parties
A chicken pox party is a party where parents bring their children in hopes that their children will contract chicken pox from a child host. Despite the availability of a chickenpox vaccine, some parents rely on these parties as a means of protecting their children from contracting the disease later. The problem with adults being exposed, if not already immune to the varicella zoster virus, is that adults usually find chicken pox much more painful and difficult to deal with and there is the possibility of developing shingles. It is important to notify the doctor before bringing a child to a chicken pox party so that the doctor may make the parents aware of the possible complications that may occur.
