Research Notes on Chest X-Ray

An x-ray is taken by using a machine to send a burst of radiation that goes through the body and produces an image on film or a digital plate. The amount of radiation used for an x-ray is minimal. X-rays of the chest can be used to look at the lungs, heart and bones, such as ribs.1

Fast Facts:

  • Calcium deposits in the heart, blood vessels and lungs can also be detected on a chest x-ray.1
  • If you are pregnant, be sure to tell the x-ray technician or radiologist before having this test.1
  • A painless test; though depending on physical condition, some discomfort may be felt with certain positioning.1
