Research Notes on Chemoembolization
Chemoembolization is a procedure in which the blood vessels in the affected part are purposely blocked, and an anti-cancer drug is directly injected to the cancerous tumor. In this way, the drug is concentrated in the tumor and the possible metastasis of the cancer cells is also inhibited.1
Fast Facts:
- This procedure is commonly done to people with liver cancer.1
- It concentrates a high dose of chemotherapy, or anti-cancer drugs in the tumor without exposing the whole body to side effects.1
- Chemoembolization may help increase the lifespan of those patients with inoperable liver cancer.2
