Research Notes on Cervical Cancer and HPV
Persistent human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the most common cause of cervical cancer. It is a common sexually transmitted infection. There are several types of HPV viruses and those that are considered “high-risk” are the ones causing cervical cancers. The most common high-risk HPV strains are types 16 and 18 causing around 70% of all cervical cancer cases.
