Research Notes on Celexa and Pregnancy


The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has labeled Celexa (citalopram) as a category C drug, meaning the effects of the medication have not been completely studied in pregnant women. Studies have found, Celexa may cause cardiovascular and skeletal abnormalities, growth retardation, and a decrease in survival rate in infants.1 Celexa may also increase the chance of miscarriage.2
