When celebrities with lung cancer go public with the disease, awareness increases.1 Older celebrities may have smoked in movies in the 1950s, a period when smoking exuded sex appeal and sophistication.1 The lung cancer death of celebrity Paul Newman is notable, as he succumbed to lung cancer after quitting smoking 30 years ago.1
Fast Facts:
- The personal disclosures of Peter Jennings and Dana Reeve (wife of Christopher Reeve) educated the country on the impact of lung cancer.2
