Research Notes on Cataract Surgery Complications
Though cataract surgery is generally safe, any surgery carries a risk of complications. Complications for this type of surgery are generally considered minor or major. Minor complications include double vision, secondary cataract and droopy eyelid. Bleeding, infection, perforation of the eye and retinal detachment are some possible major complications.1
Fast Facts:
- Most minor complications are temporary.1
- Risk of complications are increased if there is an underlying eye disease or other serious medical condition.2
- Serious complications occur in about 1 in 1,000 cataract surgeries.3
