Research Notes on Cardiovascular Disease Symptoms
The most common symptom of cardiovascular disease is angina. Angina can be described as a discomfort, heaviness, pressure, aching, burning, fullness, squeezing or painful feeling in your chest. It can be mistaken for indigestion or heartburn. Angina is usually felt in the chest, but may also be felt in the shoulders, arms, neck, throat, jaw or back.1

- Other symptoms include shortness of breath, palpitations, a faster heartbeat, weakness or dizziness, nausea, and sweating.1
- It is important to recognize the signs of a heart attack and to act immediately by calling 9–1–1.2
- A heart attack or stroke may be the first warning of underlying disease.3
