Capsaicin is the active component of chili peppers, which plants belong to the genus Capsicum. It is used as a topical ointment to relieve pain and obstruction of neurogenic inflammation. Capsaicin is used to treat detrusor hyperreflexia in patients with a hyperactive or neurogenic bladder.
