Research Notes on Candida Albicans
Candida albicans is the organism that causes vaginal yeast infection, or candidiasis. It is normally found in small amounts in different parts of the body, including the vagina and the mouth, without causing infection. Candidiasis does not manifest until the population of Candida albicans outnumbers the other microorganisms that are normally found in the vagina. Candida albicans infection can be treated with over-the-counter medication, however, if one's immune system is weakened, consultation with a doctor is needed for proper treatment.
