Research Notes on Can Chemotherapy Cause Numbness in Fingers and Toes
Certain chemotherapy drugs can cause numbness in the fingers and toes. The numbness commonly moves up in a glove type fashion. There is a higher risk of experiencing numbness if you have a preexisting condition that may have caused peripheral neuropathy.1 Those conditions can include diabetes, alcoholism, and severe malnutrition.1

- Vincristine, vinblastine, and paclitaxel are common chemotherapy drugs that cause numbness.2
- If the numbness persists or becomes worse, your health care provider may choose to decrease your dosage.2
- Feelings of numbness following chemotherapy usually subsides following the completion of treatment.2
