Research Notes on California Health Care Reform
Coverage for all citizens of California, as well as affordability and cost containment for its residents, are the foundation for California's proposed health care reform. 2007 was tauted as being the 'Year for Health Care Reform,' however due to legislative negotiations, the bill was stalled in January of 2008. In August of 2007, a forum called "California Speaks" took place, comprising of nearly 3500 residents of California, representing a broad spectrum of the population. Its goal was to discuss insights into the health care proposals and vote on what they felt the state should do. Unfortunately, it had no impact on the legislation and in fact, the results of the California Speaks report was never mentioned during the Assembly Health Committee hearing sessions.
