Research Notes on COPD and Exercise
Exercise is recommended for most COPD patients in order to help improve symptoms, build energy levels, and lower blood pressure. However, because COPD patients are often fatigued and breathless, exercise is more difficult and patients must be monitored closely. Stretching exercises, cardiovascular or aerobic exercise, and strength training are all recommended for COPD patients.1
Fast Facts:
- Warming up before exercise is very important for COPD patients.2
- Varying exercise is important to keep from becoming bored, but make sure your physician approves each exercise activity.2
- Should you begin to experience pain, become nauseated, or feel weak, stop exercising immediately.2
