Byetta is a brand name for the drug exenatide. It is an injectable drug prescribed for type 2 diabetes for use in combination with other diabetes medications.1 For complete information, see the exenatide WisdomCard.
Fast Facts:
- Sometimes called "lizard spit" since it contains a component found in the saliva of the Gila monster, one of only 2 poisonous lizards in North America.2
- Before using Byetta, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, are on dialysis, have stomach ailments, are pregnant or planning to get pregnant, are breast feeding, or have allergic reactions to medications, dyes, foods, or preservatives.3
- Byetta is injected under the skin of your upper leg, stomach area, or upper arm.3
