Research Notes on Burns Depression Inventory
Depression is a huge mental health problem in the United States. Left untreated, significant impairment in social, occupational, and academic functioning occurs in the depressed individual. It is vital to have instruments that can assist in the detection of the symptoms of depression. The Burns Depression Inventory is one such tool.1
Fast Facts:
- After you read each symptom, write the number (from 1-3) which best describes your feelings during the past several days.2
- Similar tools include the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HRSD).
- The test gives an idea of whether you are depressed and also the severity of your depression.3
- You can take an interactive assessment here on OrganizedWisdom that is based on the Burns Depression Inventory.
