Research Notes on Bronchitis in Dogs
Chronic bronchitis is a persistent inflammation of the tubes that pass air to the lungs from the trachea. The cause of chronic bronchitis in most cases is unknown. It can affect both dogs and cats but is most common in adult small/toy or medium-sized dog breeds.1

- Dogs with chronic bronchitis are usually over 6 years of age.2
- Acute bronchitis is short in duration and associated with reversible changes.3
- Chronic bronchitis is long in duration (usually more than 2 or 3 months) and associated with permanent, irreversible changes.3
- Symptoms are are a persistent harsh, dry cough.4
