Research Notes on Bronchitis Treatment
Treatment for bronchitis symptoms depends on the origin of the infection and its severity. Most people who have bronchitis developed it as a result of a viral infection. For these people, treatment involves just treating the symptoms with acetaminophen, drinking fluids, and the use of an over-the-counter cough suppressant.1 For more severe cases, a physician may prescribe antibiotics and a prescription strength cough suppressant.2
Fast Facts:
- Antibiotics are prescribed when a bacterial infection is the cause of the bronchitis.1
- If you experience bronchitis complications, you may be hospitalized.2
- A humidifier will help to decrease bronchial irritation.2
