Research Notes on Broken Foot
Broken bones in the foot are very common because the human foot has 26 bones divided to three parts: the hindfoot, the midfoot, and the forefoot.1 The most common foot fractures involve the toe bones and the metatarsal bones.2 Certain activities or injuries can cause a fracture, or breaks in one or more of these bones.3
Fast Facts:
- Stress fracture commonly occurs in weight-bearing bones.4
- Rest, ice, compression, and elevation of the leg (R.I.C.E) are the first treatments in mild musculoskeletal injuries.3
- Wearing proper athletic or protective shoes can help prevent injuries of the foot.5
